On October 29, 2024, former Romanian national team football star and honorary Arcadia citizen, Florin Răducioiu, visited the City of Arcadia, California. He was warmly welcomed by City Councilwoman Eileen Wang and City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto. The visit marked a continuation of his 30-year connection with Arcadia.

Răducioiu shared that Arcadia holds a special place in his heart: “For the past 30 years, I have returned to this beautiful city many times in my dreams. Today, I finally fulfilled that dream. I am very happy and hope to return again in two years.”

During the welcoming ceremony, Councilwoman Eileen Wang presented Răducioiu with a congratulatory letter on behalf of the City, expressing gratitude for his visit after many years and reaffirming the cherished memories the football legend left in Arcadia.

Arcadia hosted the Romanian National Team during the 1994 World Cup in the United States. On June 14, 1994, then-Mayor Mary Young, awarded Răducioiu the title of “Honorary Citizen of Arcadia” in recognition of his contributions to the international sports exchange.

Born on March 17, 1970, Răducioiu played for several renowned clubs throughout his career, including Dinamo Bucharest, AC Milan, West Ham United, VfB Stuttgart, and Monaco. Internationally, he represented Romania in the 1990 and 1994 World Cups, and the 1996 European Championship, establishing himself as a skilled and celebrated forward.

This visit is not only a reflection of his career but also a tribute to Arcadia, a city that witnessed significant moments in his journey. To commemorate the moment, Răducioiu presented City officials with a signed football jersey.

“Florin Răducioiu’s visit reminds us of the everlasting impact of the 1994 World Cup and shows how a shared love for football can transcend national borders,” said Council Member Eileen Wang. “Florin is always welcome in Arcadia and we hope all sports fans will make their own lasting memories in Arcadia in the future!”

With top hotels and accommodations, Arcadia hopes to host another football team when the FIFA World Cup returns to Los Angeles in 2026.
