ARCADIA, CA – Each year, the Arcadia City Council holds a goalsetting meeting to discuss priorities for the current year and outline a collective vision for the future. This year’s goalsetting session was held over two days and covered a variety of topics that included housing supply and affordability, language access, economic development, fiscal affairs, public safety, and other quality of life matters. These meetings provide an opportunity for Arcadia’s elected leaders to gather and discuss priority projects and community interests in a candid and in-depth manner.

Over the two-day session, the City Council delved into many topics, with priorities emerging in the areas of (1) improving language access for non-English speaking residents; (2) combatting residential and commercial burglaries through technology and community outreach; (3) collaborating with the new owners of the Shops at Santa Anita to target high-end retailers; and (4) exploring new ways of getting more of Arcadia’s homeless off the streets and into shelter.
When asked about this year’s goalsetting session, Mayor Paul P. Cheng said, “This year, our vision for the future expanded with the input from three new Council Members, Michael Cao, Sharon Kwan, and Eileen Wang. Mayor Pro Tem April Verlato and I are fortunate to have these new perspectives on the City Council and are eager to work with our new colleagues. I am further proud of the hard work and sacrifice made by City employees who helped our community weather the challenges of the pandemic, allowing us to look to the future with hope and enthusiasm.”
